How Passengers & Babies In ISOFIX Are Affected in an Accident

A parent’s greatest joy is their child and travelling with them can be a pretty big deal for new parents. The roads can be a dangerous place and we sometimes take safety for granted. When you have a baby, there are lots of things you need to be prepared for; the most important is their car seat safety. Luckily, Subaru has taken your and your family’s needs into consideration. We’ve gone the extra mile and equipped every Subaru model with ground-breaking technology to keep you and your little one protected at all times. Because let’s face it, there’s safe and then there’s Subaru safe.

Accidents happen every day all over the world, and while we cannot predict these types of things, we can most certainly plan for them. With Subaru, each car has ISOFIX included to give you that added peace of mind in knowing your child is safe and secure. But what is ISOFIX? Let’s unpack this vital safety system here.

What Is ISOFIX and It’s Safety Features

What Is ISOFIX?
ISOFIX is an international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger cars. It is a permanent connection between the car seat and the car.

Is ISOFIX safer than a seat belt?

The system has been tested independently and the results state that for young children, it’s much safer than a seat belt. This is simply because the car seat is directly fixed to the ISOFIX base, helping to keep children secure in their seats, even in the event of an accident.

One of the greatest aspects of the ISOFIX system is that it is incredibly easy to install and remove thanks to that fixed base. The “click and go” installation enables you to fit the car seat onto the base quickly – a simple click and you’re ready to safely tackle the roads.

ISOFIX Car Seats Distribute the Force of An Accident More Evenly

ISOFIX car seats have changed the baby safety game forever. While we don’t like to dwell on the negatives, the reality of the situation is that accidents happen more often than we think. If you have an accident, ISOFIX keeps your baby secure and distributes the force more evenly. This basically means that there is less impact – and with ISOFIX’s pioneering system, the danger of whiplash or blunt force is drastically lessened.

ISOFIX Car Seats Safety for Babies When Dealing with The Impact of An Accident

An alternative to using seat belts would be using ISOFIX. It secures the child’s seat in place in a more effective, stable and secure way. It secures the seat with a single attachment at the top and two attachments at the base of each side of the seat. These safe and secure attachment points are the reason babies are protected from impact in the event of an accident.

Guidelines To Ensure Your ISOFIX Seat Is Always Ready for An Accident

There is not one set of car seat safety guidelines that is more important than the other. When preparing to hit the road, there are some guidelines to follow to ensure that your ISOFIX seat is always ready for any trip. Here’s a quick safety checklist:

  1. Position your baby seat correctly. Baby seats should be placed in the rear of the car in the centre. It should also be faced towards the passenger seat and not the driver’s seat.
  2. Ensure the ISOFIX attachments are clicked in. When latching in the ISOFIX, ensure that you hear the click – this means that the ISOFIX is secure.
  3. Do not unbuckle the ISOFIX or safety belts. Do not by any means unbuckle any attachments whilst driving. Accidents can happen at any moment.
