It’s that breathless second where the Maluti Mountains meet the sky, and you realize you aren’t just riding a trail, you’re chasing the sun across the most beautiful landscape in South Africa.

Few events capture the scale and spirit of South African mountain biking quite like the Sani2c. This multi-day stage race begins in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg and winds its way through farmland, forests, and flowing single-track before finishing at the Indian Ocean in Scottburgh.
Over three unforgettable days in the saddle, traversing 270 kilometres, riders experience more than just distance and terrain. They become part of a tradition shaped by camaraderie, determination, and the quiet satisfaction of seeing each stage through to the end.
Participants can choose between two three-day race formats, each with its own energy. The KAP sani2c ‘OG’ is the original – where it all began – featuring pro teams, and an electric race village atmosphere. It runs Thursday to Saturday, and e-bikes are welcome.
Then there’s the KAP sani2c Adventure – the one for riders who want the challenge, the pace, and the post-ride stories without lining up against the pros. It starts on Wednesday and finishes on Friday, and no e-bikes are permitted. Same iconic route. Different vibe.
Subaru Pietermaritzburg joins the journey where preparation meets anticipation, engaging with riders and supporters as they move through one of the country’s most celebrated mountain biking corridors . In an event defined by progression, changing landscapes, and long days in motion, Subaru’s presence reflects an understanding of what it means to go the distance, with confidence that holds from the first climb to the final stretch.
Whether you’re riding, supporting a participant, or simply taking in the atmosphere, the Sani2c stands as a celebration of grit, community, and the enduring appeal of the trail.
