Is the Subaru Outback reliable for off-road trips?
As an off-road enthusiast, you’ve probably seen or made a list of the places you want to explore. From the Helderberg Farm to Peak in Somerset West, the Old Postal Route in the Western Cape, Klippspringer Pass in the Karoo National Park or the Protea Loop in the Somabula Reserve, you’ll want peace of mind that the wheels you get there in will provide as much enjoyment — and then get you home again safely, right? Enter the Subaru Outback!
With its CVT transmission, you’ll comfortably navigate challenging terrain at lower speeds. And while snow might not be high on the list of challenges here in South Africa, this car’s famous all-wheel drive and the Subaru Outback off-road wheels will pull you right through mud and loose rock without issue.
It’s quite something to say that the all-new Subaru Outback is the most advanced, most capable and safest car in the brand’s history. The Subaru outback Field and Touring versions are both offered with a 2.5-litre direct injection Boxer® Engine. The engine is mated to a lightweight Lineartronic® CVT transmission and delivers 138kW at 5,800rpm with maximum torque being 245Nm at between 3,400 and 4,600rpm.
To summarise at a glance why this model will take you on your off-road adventures without a glitch:

Best way to drive a Subaru Outback
The new Outback’s X-Mode and Hill Descent Control offers two settings that can be used depending on the severity of the surface — each optimising how the vehicle manages the Outback in specific situations by sending power to the wheels with the best traction.
From muddy slopes to sand and gravel, the X-Mode system helps drivers safely navigate out of situations that usually only the most skilled drivers would be able to handle. And while it’s easy to see how efficiency has been achieved, safety is also assured with the new 2.5Litre Outback boasting its best braked towing capacity of 1 500kg!
The Subaru Outback off road wheels are model-specific meaning that the Field model is fitted with 18-inch black metallic alloy wheels while the Touring model delivers 18-inch aluminium finished alloy wheels. Speak to your dealership if you would like to customise the specifics on your Subaru Outback.
