Subaru Southern Africa is the official vehicle partner to Team PYGA Euro Steel

Subaru Southern Africa has been the official vehicle partner to Team Pyga Eurosteel since August 2017.

We provide three vehicles for the team, comprising of

  • Philip Buys, 2017 Epic African Jersey Winner,
  • Kombo Bere, 2016 Zimbabwean National Champ,
  • Matthys Beukes, 2017 Epic African Jersey Winner,
  • Julian Jessop, 2017 U-23 South African XCO champ, and
  • Phillimon Sebona, 2017 Epic Development Jersey winner.

Subaru Southern Africa is no stranger to outdoor adventure sports. The brand has been involved in cycling and mountain biking over the years. Mountain biking in South Africa has grown at an unprecedented rate, boasting some of the largest cycling races in the world, such as the Cape Epic. This discipline is a perfect platform for brand awareness and the positioning of the award-winning Subaru range to the mountain biking community.

The team has enjoyed great success over the last two years. In March to May 2017, the team won the Cape Epic African Jersey, Joberg2c, National MTB Series Clarens and Sani2c. In July 2017, the team placed second and third at the SA XCO championships in Mankele. Matthys Beukes placed first and Philip Buys placed fourth (after a puncture and wheel change) at the National MTB Series Van Gaalens. In 2018, the team retained the title of the African team across the line at the Cape Epic.

Ruan Lochner, the team manager, believes the partnership is a perfect match for the team. “We are very excited to have Subaru on board,” he says. “The Subaru brand resonates with our team, striving for excellence and to be the best in their industry. We race across the whole of South Africa and spend a lot of time on the road, and it gives us a lot of confidence to know that our crew and athletes are in safe vehicles. We never have to worry about whether we can access certain roads – these cars can go anywhere.”
