Passive Safety

Despite the Outback’s full house of active safety features, an accident is sometime simply inevitable.

This is why Subaru focused on developing a comprehensive range of passive safety features – the Outback is designed to protect its occupants with a series of advanced systems and features, balancing rigid strength with controlled deformation in key areas to better manage impact forces.

For instance, the Outback engine’s Cradle Mount System effectively lengthens the front crumple zone. The frame structure has also been improves so that it compresses gradually during a rear-end impact.

Each side door includes two side-impact protection beams. A comprehensive suite of airbags (seven in total, including a driver’s knee airbag), whiplash-reducing front seats, retracting pedals and three-point seatbelts also help protect occupants in the event of an accident. ISOFIX mounts are in place to protect children while Subaru’s ring shaped reinforcement frames result improved impact safety.
